CATLIN ARCTIC SURVEY DATA SUPPORTS RAPID ICE LOSS - LARGELY OPEN ARCTIC SEAS IN SUMMER WITHIN TEN YEARS

As you might be aware, the data brought back from the ice by Pen and the 30web250pixCatlin Arctic Survey (CAS) team, has, over the last 6 weeks, been analysed by Prof Peter Wadhams and his colleagues at the Polar Oceans Physics Group at the University of Cambridge. In close partnership with the WWF this analysis has been presented at a press conference in London, within the last few days.

Peter Wadhams and Nick Toberg the report authors, highlight the vulnerability of the Arctic Ocean sea ice, supporting a consensus view that the Arctic will be ice free in 20 years, but with much of it happening within the next decade. (more…)

Report on Poznan (COP 14)

As some of you may already know, Jenrick CPI is one of the key sponsors of the Catlin Arctic Survey, the findings of which will be put forward at the next Conference of Parties (COP15) in Copenhagen in November 2009.

The forerunner to Copenhagen took place in Poznan last week (COP 14), where the world’s leading nations attempted to lay the foundations for agreement next year. However, reports from Poznan suggest that the delegates are having some difficulty reaching agreements. (more…)
