2012 will see an interconnected web with HTML5, leading a range of diverse and exciting contract and permanent HTML5 job opportunities:

In 2012, HTML5 will be adding support for some really useful and cool APIs that allow one website to connect to another.

For example, Zynga games on Facebook run inside of iframes. Using the new postMessage API these games will be able to communicate within the containing Facebook frame directly. Before HTML5, inter-window communication had to rely on a remote server - or use unreliable hacks.

Another exciting addition is CORS (Cross Origin Resource Sharing). This will make it much easier for different websites to share information with one another. For example, CORS will enable startups to create photo-editing services that download your photos from Facebook, let you modify them, and then re-upload them - again without having to resort to ugly hacks.

With all of the new semantic information available with HTML5, it will become much easier to create web tools that extract information from web pages. As a result, you can expect to see a plethora of new mashup services, as well as better browser modes (like readers and translators).

The demand for web developers has exploded in Q4 as the war for talent really ‘hots up’ in the online and mobile apps space. HTML5 is tipped to be the big area for 2012, with tech ‘big wigs’ like Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft and Zynga all looking to expand.

Job creation continues to increase month on month within the engineering sector as up to 2,500 jobs are to be created in Yorkshire’s burgeoning offshire wind industry, as the article below reveals:

Up to 2,500 jobs will be created in Yorkshire’s burgeoning offshore wind industry following a series of major announcements by energy firms this year, according to new Government research confirming the huge opportunity offered by North Sea wind.

Writing in today’s Yorkshire Post, Conservative Energy Minister Charles Hendry makes clear the Coalition believes “next-generation industries” such as the offshore wind sector are set to give regions like Yorkshire “a real opportunity to thrive again” after decades of industrial decline.

Four massive offshore wind farms are due to be built off the Yorkshire coast over the next decade as the UK pushes forward towards its 30 per cent target for renewable energy by 2020.

The construction and maintenance of the thousands of turbines required is seen as a major economic opportunity for the whole of the East Coast, and the Yorkshire Post is campaigning for the thousands of jobs which will be created to be centred upon this region.

The employment status is looking very promising within the engineering sector as Honda creates 500 new jobs at its Swindon plant, as the article below reveals:

The Japanese manufacturer said operations were returning to normal in the UK after production of the new Civic model was delayed by a month following the floods in Thailand.

Parts shortages caused by the March earthquake in Japan had also affected production but the company said it had “turned a corner” and expected to make about 180,000 vehicles in 2012.

More positive employment news  has just been released, with Morrisons announcing that it is to create thousands of jobs next year as it expands its network of stores around the country.

The supermarket giant said 25 new shops are to be opened in 2012, as well as a new regional distribution centre in the south of England.

This will provide 7,000 people with employment and goes towards the company’s aim of ensuring more households have a Morrisons supermarket within driving distance.

Since 75 per cent of the chain’s employees are typically from the area around each store and approximately half were without a job before starting work with Morrisons, this could provide a vital boost to those suffering as a result of unemployment up and down Britain. (more…)

Jenrick Engineering, the specialist engineering recruitment agency, continues to report on the increasing employment opportunities within the Engineering sector, this time with the news that thousands of jobs could be up for grabs in Norfolk and Suffolk with the building of two new power stations in the next decade.

It is thought that if EDF Energy go ahead with plans for Sizewell C and get permission for the new station then initial construction work could start in 2015 with work on a station in Bradwell, Essex starting in 2017.

During the construction period of the current power station Sizewell B - which is the most recent nuclear reactor to be built in the UK involved more than 3,000 UK companies, with 690 from East Anglia. (more…)
