3 Easy Ways for People to Take On Your Advice

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

“Now, what you should do is…” “Well, it’s obvious, you should do this, then you should do that and then you should tell them you’ve done it”.kay-white-communication-trainer

Should do. What you should do and what you want to and actually do are often very different things. Even if the advice we’ve been given is spot on, the fact that we’ve been told we ‘should’ do it is often the very reason we don’t. So if that’s the reaction we have, it’s the reaction that others will have when we ‘should’ all over them. Hmmm.

Anyone thinking that Facebook is just for teenagers, think again.

Monday, June 27th, 2011

facebookWe just saw this very topical article on Reuters UK regarding the continuing growth of Facebook and it nicely complemented the interview Online Marketing Expert, Neil McCarthy, recently gave on the Maximise Potential Podcast.

For anyone still thinking that Facebook is a short-term fad and is only used by teenagers, please take a look at the article below . . .

Facebook overtook Microsoft websites in Britain for the first time last month, becoming the UK’s second-most popular after Google as people aged over 50 flocked to social networks, online measurement body UKOM/Nielsen said.

Facebook attracted a record 26.8 million visitors in Britain in May, up 7 percent year on year, beating the 26.2 million who visited Microsoft’s MSN/WindowsLive/Bing sites combined, the organization said on Monday. Google had 33.9 million. (more…)

How and Why it’s good to be Direct

Friday, June 24th, 2011

It’s important to be able to be direct.  There are times when it’s crucial to beannouncements1 direct.  There you are, I’m being direct with you.  It’s got your attention, you know what I’m saying and it’s a key piece to being a clear, confident communicator.

We’ll start with the ‘Why’ of being direct first.  I’ll be direct with you.  I promise - and before we start, being direct is very different from being rude.  That’s the key.

Julie Alton nominates Rainbows Hospice for Jenrick’s ‘Helping Hand’

“WHAT IS YOUR HELPING HAND IDEA / INITIATIVE” rainbows-hospice

Right, here goes, I have agreed to go and stay overnight in a haunted gaol in Derby, (yes a la “most haunted”) to raise money for a charity called Rainbows.

I am one of 15 mothers from my son Rafe’s school who are taking part, the aim is to add to the pot of a year of fundraising for the Charity, we have a variety of fundraisers, ranging from people who are running marathons, walking the breath of the country and sitting in baths of baked beans (yes really) and this is my personal input (along with donating money personally and also being on the committee that is organizing all of this)

I have to stress that this might not sound a big deal but when you have a fear of the paranormal like mine, you would understand that this is quite a big deal!!

Honestly I would rather free fall from an airplane at 30,000 feet than take part in this, but this is the activity that needs the most people to do it, so doing it I am.

Still I suppose if I return possessed at least that will give reason to my general demeanor!! (more…)
