Morrisons to create 7,000 new jobs for 2012

More positive employment news  has just been released, with Morrisons announcing that it is to create thousands of jobs next year as it morrisons-logoexpands its network of stores around the country.

The supermarket giant said 25 new shops are to be opened in 2012, as well as a new regional distribution centre in the south of England.

This will provide 7,000 people with employment and goes towards the company’s aim of ensuring more households have a Morrisons supermarket within driving distance.

Since 75 per cent of the chain’s employees are typically from the area around each store and approximately half were without a job before starting work with Morrisons, this could provide a vital boost to those suffering as a result of unemployment up and down Britain. (more…)

Nuclear industry could create huge job opportunities in Norfolk and Suffolk

Jenrick Engineering, the specialist engineering recruitment agency, continues to report on the increasing employment opportunities within the Engineering sizewell-c-power-station-engineering-jobssector, this time with the news that thousands of jobs could be up for grabs in Norfolk and Suffolk with the building of two new power stations in the next decade.

It is thought that if EDF Energy go ahead with plans for Sizewell C and get permission for the new station then initial construction work could start in 2015 with work on a station in Bradwell, Essex starting in 2017.

During the construction period of the current power station Sizewell B - which is the most recent nuclear reactor to be built in the UK involved more than 3,000 UK companies, with 690 from East Anglia. (more…)

New plan for Severn Barrage could bring more than 30,000 jobs

Jenrick Engineering, the specialist engineering recruitment agency, has just severn-estuaryreceived news that will potentially generate 30,000 new engineering jobs in the West of England.

NEW plans for a multi-billion- pound barrage across the Severn Estuary are being considered by the UK Government.

The scheme, which would generate around 5% of the UK’s electricity needs, has been submitted by a consortium called Corlan Hafren to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

More than 30,000 jobs could be created from the barrage, from a turbine-manufacturing plant and from a new port, it is claimed.

It is understood the consortium is in talks with financial backers, including sovereign wealth funds from the Middle East, for investment running into tens of billions of pounds.

The consortium’s scheme would be privately financed, a government requirement after the rejection of other, publicly-funded barrage and tidal schemes last year. (more…)

JCB to generate 350 new engineering jobs

Design and research into the new engine project will take place at JCB Power Systems in Foston, Derbyshire, where the company’s JCB Dieselmax engine is manufactured. (more…)

Food and Drink Industry to create 137,000 new jobs over the next 5 years

Jenrick Engineering is very pleased to report that the Food and Drink Industry will create 137,000 new jobs over the next 5 years, offering a huge boost of food-and-drink-federationconfidence for employment within this sector.

The figures were reported by the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) at their annual conference, and formed part of an overall presentation which highlighted the importance that the Food and Drink Industry continues to play within the overall UK economy.

The 137,000 jobs, which represents 34% of the total workforce within this sector, will be mainly required to replace existing employees within the sector who will be retiring.

Angela Coleshill, the FDF’s director of competitiveness, added:

“Technology will play an increasing role in the future shape of the workforce.

We have noticed particular skills shortages for Food Scientists and Technologists and Engineers, with 20% of companies (we’ve surveyed) reporting shortages.”

Toyota announces plans for 1,500 new jobs at Derby plant

Jenrick Engineering, the specialist engineering recruitment agency, is pleased to report that Toyota has announced plans for up to 1,500 new automotive toyotamanufacturing jobs in Derby.

Jenrick, from its office in Burton on Trent, has a strong presence in the automotive engineering job market, added this commentary:

“This is excellent news for the area. We’ve seen an amazing resurgence in the automotive engineering sector and this investment by Toyota will further add the long-term confidence of those skilled engineers within this industry.”

The carmaker has designated its factory, in nearby Burnaston, as the European centre for its new generation of hatchback vehicles.

Food and drink manufacturers win £1.7M skills injection

The government has pledged to invest £1.7M in the UK food and drink engineering-food-production-plantmanufacturing sector to fund strategic skills projects designed to support competitiveness, growth and jobs.

Coca-Cola invests £50m in UK manufacturing plants

Jenrick Engineering, a leading recruitment agency in the Food and Drink coca-colaSector, is very pleased to report that Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE), a marketer, producer and distributor of Coca-Cola products, has invested £50m in its Wakefield, East Kilbride and Sidcup manufacturing facilities, with an aim to strengthen its business while reducing the impact of its operations on the environment.

The investment includes introduction of a new £30m automated warehouse at the Wakefield bottling facility in Yorkshire.

The company said the new facility will increase the Wakefield unit’s storage capacity by 102%. The products manufactured at the site will be delivered directly to customers.

An investment of £5.4m at its East Kilbride site includes introduction of a SIDEL SB0 20, a new energy-efficient bottle blowing facility that will produce lightweight PET bottles.

The CCE has also invested in a ACMI Fenix 165 packaging machine, which removes the need to use cardboard in the packaging of multi-pack products.

Demand for new engineers is 88% higher now than in September 2010

Confirming Jenrick Engineering’s own statistics regarding the continued newsgrowth of the Engineering employment market, Eureka (Engineering Design Website / Journal) just released the following report:

“Demand for new engineers has bucked national downwards trends by rising month-on-month in September as well as year-on-year.

Engineering jobs on the upNew figures released today show the number of new UK engineering jobs on offer has risen five times faster year-on-year than the all-sector average, according to figures from the Reed Job Index.

The study revealed that year-on-year demand for new engineers is 88% higher now than in September 2010, compared to a rise of 16% across all other sectors. The latest figures also show that salaries on offer for new engineers remain stable. (more…)

Jobs boost as Jaguar build new engine plant

Earlier this year, we reported on the announcement that Car giant Jaguar Land Rover, has chosen the West Midlands to open its new 800,000 sq ft automotive jaguar-land-rover-groupproduction site and provide an essential boost in automotive engineering jobs for the West Midlands.
