Novasoft win IR35 case

One of the most welcome IR35 victories was announced this week, with Novak Brajkovic being cleared of being an employee. The fascinating area surrounding this case is that Mr Brajkovic would never have been investigated had he not approached the HMRC for help and assistance. (more…)

HMRC Appeal halted by Larkstar

Alan Brill of Larkstar Data has decided to put a stop to his appeal, as reported by the PCG below.

We regret to report that HMRC will be rubbing their hands together today, as Larkstar’s Alan Brill has decided to call a halt to his appeal.  Although Alan is keen to fight (not least because of the stress he has been subjected to over the past 7 years), with retirement now upon him he does not want to submit his family to further stress. Tories to review IR35

Mark Prisk (Shadow Business Minister) has made a promise that the Conservatives would review IR35. However, as with all pre-election vows, the exact detail and timing of this review is filed as TBA.

Conservatives to reform IR35

Mark Prisk, the Conservative Shadow Business Minister, has announced that a Conservative Government would undertake a full review of small business taxation, including IR35.  The aim will be to provide a simpler and clearer tax regime.  (more…)

Early Day Motion’ from the Conservatives on AWD

APSCo are reporting that Conservative party members, including David Cameron have tabled a motion against the Agency Workers Directive (Temporary Workers Directive).

One suspects this could be a pre-election rally to the agencies and contracting community, but could be very good news should it lead to the demise of this directive. (more…)

IR35 news and advice from leading IT recruitment agency - JenrickPCG (Professional Contractors Group) has called on Political leaders to make a new years resolution to look at contractors in a more positive and fair light for 2010.

As we flip the calendar onto a new decade we inevitably start to reflect on the past, set goals for the future and ponder on what fate has in store for us.  Sadly, the one thing clearly evident is that we face a very uncertain future.  Despite signs that the economy is picking up with the stock market, retail and manufacturing all indicating positively (we may even officially be out of the recession) it is clear that unemployment and inflation will continue to rise and this will have repercussions on how we emerge, whether we see a double dip and ultimately how strongly we will develop as an economy.
