“WHAT IS YOUR HELPING HAND IDEA / INITIATIVE”
Right, here goes, I have agreed to go and stay overnight in a haunted gaol in Derby, (yes a la “most haunted”) to raise money for a charity called Rainbows.
I am one of 15 mothers from my son Rafe’s school who are taking part, the aim is to add to the pot of a year of fundraising for the Charity, we have a variety of fundraisers, ranging from people who are running marathons, walking the breath of the country and sitting in baths of baked beans (yes really) and this is my personal input (along with donating money personally and also being on the committee that is organizing all of this)
I have to stress that this might not sound a big deal but when you have a fear of the paranormal like mine, you would understand that this is quite a big deal!!
Honestly I would rather free fall from an airplane at 30,000 feet than take part in this, but this is the activity that needs the most people to do it, so doing it I am.
Still I suppose if I return possessed at least that will give reason to my general demeanor!! (more…)

“WHAT IS YOUR HELPING HAND IDEA / INITIATIVE”
I would like to nominate an incredible person who I have met called Andy North.
In a couple of months Andy will push his body to the absolute limit, undertaking the most incredible endurance challenge in order to raise £50,000 for two amazing charities that no one really knows about, Forces Children’s Trust and ABF The Soldiers Charity.
Starting in August, Andy will be running a total of 25 marathons, cycling 1,300 miles and even kayaking 25 miles across the English Channel, in his bid to travel from Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire to Gibraltar – and he’s going to do all of this within just 6 weeks. (more…)

“WHAT IS YOUR HELPING HAND IDEA / INITIATIVE”
I am nominating Brooke School in Rugby - they are a special needs school that helps build children’s confidence and learning. They are quite a small school and have a variety of age groups from preschool right through to A levels.
The reason I have chose this charity is because my partner’s little brother is at the school and at present they are currently raising money to build a log cabin where the children can chill out and relax at break and lunch times, as they currently lack covered outdoor recreation areas. (more…)

Congratulations to Lee Burton of Jenrick Engineering who on Thursday 28th April won The Jenrick Experience, one of the more popular corporate wellbeing intiatives at Jenrick, as his lucky number was picked out of a hat.
Lee is a two-wheel petrolhead and has owned several motorbikes throughout the years. So he asked if he could go on a 3-day course / race experience where he will receive expert instructions and lessons before getting the opportunity to actually race on the circuits!
Well done Lee, we hope you have a blast.
Here’s what Lee wrote as his entry:

Jenrick supports James Cracknell in his fund rasing for Headway, the Brain Injury Association.
In the extract below, James Cracknell explains his reasons for choosing to run for this charity.

Hi there,
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my fund raising page for Headway in the London Marathon. Having spent a significant percentage of the last eight months in hospital I won’t be troubling the scorers but wanted to raise funds as a way of thanking those people who looked after me.

Ciaran Pillay, Recruitment Consultant at leading recruitment agency Jenrick IT, kindly wrote this article on how he views Jenrick as a place to work
compared to other recruitment agencies he has worked for in the past.
The title “Recruitment Consultant” is one that sometimes carries heavy prejudice and connotations of untrustworthy, cutthroat, money orientated, individuals, working for large, brash institutions that embody the aforementioned animal.
I have worked for a couple of said organisations in the past and, have certainly come across countless more on my own personal journey to find employment.
These encounters tainted my own impression of the recruitment world and upon returning from my travels I was adamant that I would not return to recruitment.

I (Sharon Stephenson of Jenrick Engineering) started my Ghost Hunting experience at Warwick Castle, my brother and I
were very nervous as neither of us knew what to expect. On arriving in the castle ground and meeting with the medium we set off on our night vigil. A brief history tour was then followed by us being split into small groups and taken to various sites around the castle. Our first site was a long corridor which was pitch black, we made ourselves comfortable and start to call out for any spirits to contact us. We saw a few orbs flicker but no definite evidence; it was at this point that something icy cold tried to grab at my hand. We did a thermometer test and the particular hand was 7 degrees cooler than my other one.
Our next vigil was in the dungeons where a volunteer was asked for so I put my hand up. I participated in an experiment where I was in the middle of a séance circle and whilst the circle chanted I experienced my arms levitating up from my body and I had no control in putting them down until the chanting stopped. Although we did other experiments and vigils we did not feel anything paranormal was taking place. (more…)
