Q1 has reported a substantial growth in demand within the C++ Unix Engineer, Analyst and Developer job market - especially on a permanent basis and particularly within the London Media and Broadcasting Sector.

Richard Johnson, of specialist IT recruitment consultancy Jenrick, is a consultant who has worked extensively within the London market over 3 years, and has this information to further highlight why this trend is occurring;

“C++ UNIX is a very established language, and although it is less popular now, it is still responsible for powering so many existing platforms. What we have seen is a quite rapid resurgence in the requirements we are receiving for C++ UNIX professionals of all levels - Engineers, Analysts and Developers.

Yet, what was particularly interesting is that it has been for the permanent job market, not the traditional contractor market that we normally see demand for.

In addition, there has also been a growing interest for C++ UNIX with Scrum Agile experience. This is due to the increasing use of Scrum Methods within large companies - in our case the substantial London-based Media and Broadcasting Companies.”

We asked some of the other consultants within Jenrick IT if they were witnessing the same trends. Matt Hancock, who has been recruiting for the IT sector since 2004, confirmed why he felt this was happening;

“Firstly, we are seeing a clear return of confidence to the IT sector which is stimulating project investment within projects - some of which may have been on hold for some time.

We also believe that some other hires are to replace enforced redundancies from the recent economic downturn. Whilst others are to replace contractors, now that they can see a clearer and more positive medium-term outlook.”
