Recession – The worst is over for the Jobs market…perhaps
Jenrick CPI is advising clients, candidates and contractors that the worst of the recession may be behind us. The specialist IT recruiter has noticed a sharp ‘spike’ in activity in early may which has been sustained into June.
Jenrick CPI Managing Director, Philip Fanthom commented:
“It’s been an incredibly tough period for the recruitment industry. However, it has also been a cleansing period where the quality players have come through, and the industry as a whole has probably been forced to take a long hard look at the value added services. We are now seeing the our hard work over the last 12 months paying off with stronger client relationships and an enhanced brand in the candidate and contractor market through assisting people through these difficult times in whatever capacity possible (e.g. complimentary CV Writing and Interview Clinics, free onsite outplacement services..etc).”
The latest KPMG/REC Report on Jobs reinforces Jenrick CPI’s feelings and shows that both vacancies and appointments continue to decline, but at a slower rate than over the last eight months.
Mike Stevens (Partner and Head of Business Services) KPMG commented:
“There is now some reason to hope that the UK jobs market has overcome the worst. For the third successive month we have seen a slowing in the rate of decline in both temporary and permanent staff appointments. Demand for staff is still falling, but much less fast than at the beginning of the year.”
In a further validation of the improved jobs market REC chief executive Kevin Green, commented:
“This month’s Report on Jobs shows that vacancies and appointments continue to decline. However, there are some signs of recovery. For example, sixty per cent of recruiters reported either a stable or increased demand for temporary staff in May.”
Jenrick CPI’s May and June activity certainly echo the above sentiments with a sharp increase in demand for Professional Contractors, together with requirements for permanent IT Staff.
