Defence Suppliers Conference 2009
Jenrick CPI was invited this year to attend the annual MOD defence supplier conference at the Thistle Hotel in Bristol, with Jenrick CPI’s government and defence expert Miriam Lee attending.
The day commenced with an overview from Digby Barker (Chairman of PASS – procurement advice and support service), setting out the objectives for the day and enabling delegates to get a flavour for the fellow speakers.
Next speaker was General Kevin O’Donoghue who gave an interesting overview of his thoughts on supplier collaboration. General O’Donoghue is currently the Chief Royal Engineer and Honorary Colonel Commandant of the Royal Logistics Corp. IN addition he is responsible for the delivery for all aspects of defence equipment and support plan, with responsibility for assets worth £76 billion.
After General O’Donoghue, the next speaker was more technical and was very relevant to a number of projects that Jenrick CPI are directly and in-directly involved; Dr Nigel Chew. Following a major internal review of MOD’s Research Programme in 2003, Nigel took up his present post as Technical Director for the new Defence Technology Innovation Centre (formerly the Research Acquisition Organisation).
In 1997 Nigel joined MOD’s Central Staffs to take up the post of Research Customer for Electronic Device Technology. He later transferred to the post of Research Customer for Infra-red and Visible Technology and in 2002 became Head of the Corporate Research Programme.
On her return to the office, specialist Government and Defence recruitment consultant at Jenrick CPI, Miriam Lee commented:-
